In Search of... Middlesex Folklore!
Josh Walker has been coming to Middlesex County with his family for as long as he can remember, and in 2009, he was married in Deltaville, Virginia. He wants to try to preserve some of the lesser-known stories, legends, and lore of the Virginia side of the lower Chesapeake Bay for future generations through careful research, documentation, and ultimately, a published work of the collection. Josh currently lives with his wife in Woodbridge, Virginia, where he is a freelance musician, music teacher, and researcher of folklore of the lower Chesapeake Bay. Josh obtained his undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, spent a year studying at The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and then received a Master’s Degree from Howard University in 2010. He has had the opportunity to perform music professionally at multiple international locations including Canada and Japan, as well as working as a musician aboard different cruise ships. Locally, Josh has been a repeat performer at Deltaville’s ‘Groovin’ concert series at Holly Point Nature Park for the last 4 years. Josh’s love of the Chesapeake Bay, and the immediate area of Middlesex County, has been a constant part of his life for as long as he can remember.
As Josh tells it, "I am seeking information about the folklore of Middlesex County, in hopes of compiling these in a collective work of some of the lesser-known tales from the Lower Chesapeake Bay for the purposes of preservation and proliferation. I would like to invite anyone who has information on, or stories about the area, to write to us and share them with us. This could include any of the following; legends, ghost stories, strange occurrences, stories of happenings at specific locations or buildings, stories from watermen about the Bay, and just about any story that has been passed down through generations. This is an area rich in history, and your help in preserving a small piece of it would mean so much to us. Thank you for your help!"
Please email here if you would like to contribute and put "Josh Walker Project" in the subject line. Thanks!
