Annual Fund

Dear Museum Friend,

Our Middlesex County Museum & Historical Society needs your help to accomplish its mission.

In 2012, the museum will conduct two fund raising events. A primary goal of our one-time 2012 Capital Campaign Fund Drive is to raise money to complete the restoration and interpretation of the historic clerk’s office on the courthouse grounds in Saluda. This informative and compelling exhibit will bring to life the 19th century environment of the clerk’s office and enable visitors to experience a visual interpretation of the county history that took place within this historic property. Our goal is $30,000.00.  The Southside Sentinel will be publishing articles about the exhibit and our progress toward meeting our goal.  Contributors will be recognized within the museum display.

Our current 2012 Annual Fund Drive relies on memberships to cover our operating expenses, new exhibits and programs and has a minimum goal of $20,000.  This year’s membership categories are Individual $20.00, Family $35.00 and Friend $125.00. Individual and Family memberships will include an ice cream social and the Friend membership will include a wine and cheese event.

Over the past year, the museum provided educational programs reaching very diverse audiences. In our local schools, outreach was initiated to help children make important connections to our county history. For our citizens, the museum presented lectures and presentations that fostered partnerships with the Virginia State Library, Virginia Historical Society and Preservation Virginia.  The museum is actively securing historic highway markers along with the Middlesex County Sesquicentennial Committee, Deltaville Maritime Museum, Middlesex County and State Historic Highway Program to honor people, places and events that had great significance to our county, state and national history. In the museum, our exhibits are being redefined, broadened and updated with input from local schools and citizens.

In 2012, we are planning a living history program on October 19th based on actual court records saved from burning by our Civil War County Clerk, Mr. P.T. Woodward.  We will be recognizing Black History Month with exhibits, programs and an event. After interviewing local Black citizens, a fantastic exhibit has been created by the students at Christ Church School.

Please consider supporting the museum with as generous a donation as possible.  We appreciate our ongoing partnership with you in fulfilling our mission.  Thank you!
Sincerely,

                                                                                                                     Marilyn South, President
