Joan E. Gosier CEO of HBCUKIDZ.com wrote her first biography as a tribute to her father’s
100th year Birthday (if he were still alive today).

The book is causing readers around the world to “think a lot about things”.  It is a story about
her personal perspectives and history of being an African American descendant of Virginia
slaves. It explains a lot of the origins of names of historical / Biblical Egypt, Africa, Ethiopia,
Iraq, etc to give her two children pride and knowledge.

“Cotton Pickin’ Paycheck-A 21st Century Journal of Escape from Slavery” is written from a
historical and Biblical perspective, with the personal touch of Joan's life incorporated
throughout.  She describes surviving near death experiences, being bullied, growing up and
surviving to create a plan of action for her life.

The end result is her love and marriage to her wonderful husband "Tommy" and the birth of
her two beautiful daughters. The eldest who is only seven years old and has already written
and published her first book to empower kids in public school, “Let’s Talk About Brains!”

The aim of the story is to empower African American people with knowledgeable lessons
learned and true inspirational stories. She writes the tale using her favorite childhood family
stories, her journal entries and recent blog entries.  This first book takes the reader from 1846
up to her early college years in the 1980s.

“Cotton Pickin’ Paycheck-A 21st Century Journal of Escape from Slavery” is a very candid, raw
and straight from the heart book.  It is a public glimpse inside of an ordinary and everyday
woman’s personal journals and love letters written to her future generations.
