Battle of Gaine's Mill Program

On Wednesday, June 20 at 7PM at the DCA Building in Deltaville, Mr. Jon Stallard will present a program concerning the Battle of Gaines’s Mill sometimes known as the First Battle of Cold Harbor. Fought on June 27, 1862 as part of the Seven Days Battles, it was a significant confederate victory, and the beginning of the end of George McClellan’s Peninsula Campaign. The 55th Virginia Infantry, comprised mostly of men from Middlesex and Essex Counties, saw its first major action at Gaines Mill.  Mr. Stallard holds undergraduate degrees in History and Political Science, and a Master’s in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Stallard is an author, lecturer, and genealogist. Mr. Stallard has lectured on General Lee and he recently conducted classes on Grant’s overland campaign. The Nottingham genealogical publication will be featuring an article this fall edited by Mr. Stallard and the Northern Neck Historical Society Journal has published an article about colonial settlement in the Northern Neck written by Mr. Stallard. In addition, Mr. Stallard is a co-owner and radio personality on local stations WNNT and WRAR.
